Prepare for the winter

Winter brings extra challenges to our bodies. Cold muscles and joints can be more prone to injury and most of us are generally less active at this time of year. However, if you enjoy winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, chiropractic should help you prepare for, and enjoy, your time on the slopes that much more.

If you spend most of your life in a sedentary role, but then head off to participate in winter sports, you need to be careful about the impact this change in activity will have on your body. Even if you’re a professional skier, you’ll need help to sustain your fitness levels throughout the season. Whatever your level of participation, chiropractors at The Berkeley Clinic can help.

We understand, and care, about helping you to prepare your bones, muscles and joints in advance of your trip. We’ll give you an appreciation of the biomechanics involved in what you’re going to be doing and give you flexibility and strength training exercises to reduce your risk of injury. That way you can get out on the slopes and fully enjoy your time skiing, snowboarding, or just walking, in the mountains.

Taking skiing as an example, it’s clear that it can place a lot of strain on your ankles, knees, hips and spine. It’s important that these areas of the body are all as flexible and strong as they can be, allowing you to ski with confidence.

Chiropractic techniques and adjustments, combined with an exercise regime ahead of taking part in winter sports, are invaluable. Ankle flexibility is so important to enable your feet and skis to move freely. We’ll make sure you maximise the range of your ankle and hip movement and help strengthen and stabilise your knees, lower back and core.

We’re experts in this area, with personal involvement in winter sports ourselves. So, why not discuss your plans with the chiropractic team at The Berkeley Clinic?
